Hints for Getting Your Advice Question Published
We receive many more questions than we can answer. Therefore, we have written
these hints to help you have the best possible chance of getting your question answered and published
in our advice column. Please try to follow as many of these guidelines as possible:
-
Direct your question to one specific columnist. We suggest you read several columns by
a variety of authors, then pick the one you think is most likely to give you an answer that you can
understand and appreciate. Start your question with "Dear (columnist firstname),"
-
Keep your question under 500 words. Under 300 words is better. We reserve the right to
edit questions for publication without your permission. (We generally supply the unedited question
to the columnist.)
-
Make your question clear and concise. Try to keep from rambling, or being repetitive.
Do not submit the same question more than once.
-
Make your question interesting to both our readers and to the columnist. We love humor and
controversial subjects. Be sure to say what you've already tried for solving your problems.
-
Format your question. DO NOT USE ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. Break your thoughts into paragraphs.
Use correct spelling and punctuation.
-
Submit your question to
.
-
Be patient. We occasionally can answer a question as fast as 15 days. More often it takes
60-90 days from the time you submit your question until it is published.
Here's what happens when we receive your question:
About once a week, we review all incoming questions, and we pass the ones WE find most interesting
on to our columnists. They decide which ones they want to answer. You will be notified by
Email to the address you write from if and when the column is published. The notification will
include a link to the column which addresses your question.
Any questions or suggestions? Please send them to

Good Luck! We look forward to receiving your question! And thanks
